You can make a difference to research by getting involved. We welcome people from different communities. The NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre involves and engages with the public and our local communities in many ways.

Meet some of our public research partners

Emily Lam

“If more people with different characteristics and backgrounds are included in research, the findings can be applied to more people in the population, making the research more valuable and the results more powerful.”

Emily, BRC public research partner
Sobia Shaw

“I am an Asian woman of Pakistani origin. I am a kidney transplant patient and have suffered gastro intestinal problems since childhood. I believe I can bring a particular perspective and I hope to continue usefully contributing to research.”

Sobia, BRC public research partner
Tony Kelly

“We do need to be part and parcel of the solution and be there around the table when decisions are being made. It’s very interesting…I would encourage other people to put themselves forward.”
