Bio
Dr Chris Weston is a group lead based in the Centre for Liver Research at the University of Birmingham, where he is Associate Professor of Liver Biology in the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy.
One strand of his research is based on the amine oxidase family of enzymes which we have shown to not only promote immune cell recruitment to the liver but also control the progression of fibrosis in in vitro and in vivo models, leading to the initiation of a clinical trial and collaboration with industry partners. He supports ongoing research projects with groups studying immune cell populations and endothelial/fibroblast biology in both the liver and other organ systems, highlighting shared mechanisms of disease and identifying routes for therapeutic intervention.
He is currently involved in diverse studies investigating the mechanisms underlying hepatic inflammation in acute and chronic settings, the establishment and maintenance of fibrosis, tumour immunology, and manifestations of the metabolic syndrome.
