Julie Rayes

position

Professor in Cardiovascular Sciences

Bio

Julie Rayes is a Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham and holds a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Fellowship. She investigates organ-specific mechanisms of thromboinflammation and immunothrombosis, with a focus on the immunoregulatory functions of platelets beyond haemostasis. In particular, she studies how platelets sense damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and how this drives the emergence of heterogeneous platelet phenotypes that differentially regulate thrombosis and inflammation in sickle cell disease and sepsis.
